Implant-Supported Dentures

What is an implant-supported denture?

The Implant Supported Denture treatment concept replaces your missing teeth with a full dental bridge supported by dental implants. The implants fully support the force into the jaw bone to give you the most natural and effective bite possible. An implant supported denture, also known as a fixed hybrid denture, involves placing five or more implants in your jaw and attaching a permanent denture. Your denture is held in place by screws that secure it to the support implants. It doesn’t touch the gum tissue, which allows you to clean under the denture without removing it. This denture will replace all your missing teeth and will not be removed except at maintenance visits by Dr. Taylor. Although cleaning under your denture without removing it is more time consuming and requires more dexterity, many patients who want a permanent denture prefer this option.

The five or more needed implants will be placed by an oral surgeon or a periodontist. Typically, a temporary set of dentures will be placed on the day of surgery. These temporary teeth will be screwed to your new implants and will allow you to lead a relatively normal life immediately after surgery with only a few changes to your diet. After a healing period, Dr. Taylor will place the final bridge. Your quality of life is improved, and you can start enjoying your favorite foods again with renewed confidence.
